Web Design References

Web Design References: News and info about web design and development. The site advocates accessibility, usability, web standards and many related topics

As time passed my attitude changed from Flash is very cool, to all these ’skip into’ sites have gotten very annoying. I also gave up hope of learning to create Flash sites myself, due to my ever-growing ideology of Freedom, prompting me to switch to Linux on the desktop. And this meant running Flash Professional was no longer an option. Over the next few years hanging out on Slashdot led me to believe that since Flash was so abused, it really lacked value. When I first saw a simple web form built with Flash I laughed and said, “Why would anyone use Flash for these types of applications?”

Flash Tutorials

When playing with the BitmapData API in Flash 8, it was often necessary to work with an images embedded in the library. To achieve this you could assign a ‘Linkage Identifier’ to the images in the library and then use BitmapData.loadBitmap to retrieve a BitmapData instance pre-populated with the specified images from the library:

Open Source Flash

a resource site on open source Flash maintained by members of the OSFlash community.
This site is a Wiki. That means that once you register for an account, you can log in and update any page on the site yourself. Please edit a page only if you can improve it.

OSFlash is a watering hole for open source Flash developers and users to meet, talk about and contribute to new and existing open source projects for the Flash Platform.

OSFlash supports the development community by providing open source projects with free source code hosting and project management tools as well as a web presence on the OSFlash wiki.

Rich Accessible Typography for the Masses

Over the last several months, a small group of web developers and designers have been hard at work perfecting a method to insert rich typography into web pages without sacrificing accessibility, search engine friendliness, or markup semantics. The method, dubbed sIFR (or Scalable Inman Flash Replacement), is the result of many hundreds of hours of designing, scripting, testing, and debugging by Mike Davidson (umm, that's me) and Mark Wubben.

Flash Animations for Physics

We have been increasingly using Flash animations for illustrating Physics content. This page provides access to those animations which may be of general interest. The animations will appear in a separate window.
